Proteus BiomedicalApril is a big month for wireless medicine events and the mobihealthnews team will be at all the big ones: CTIA Wireless, BodyNets09, HIMSS, World Healthcare Congress, Health 2.0 and ATA 2009. If you'll be attending any of these events and would like to meet up, be sure to send me an email. If you'll be at CTIA Wireless, don't miss the session I helped put together on wireless medicine... details below:

iTMP's AppsEarly next month the wireless industry's biggest U.S. conference takes place in Las Vegas--CTIA Wireless 2009. mobihealthnews helped put together a wireless medicine panel at the event that includes speakers from Proteus Biomedical, Sensei, iTMP Technology, Entra Health Systems, Ziff Davis Enterprise and myself. Yesterday, CTIA published a press release about the mHealth offerings at the event this year, including a keynote by  cardiologist Dr. Eric J. Topol, director of Scripps Translational Science Institute and chief academic officer of Scripps Health.

"The medical industry as we know it today is out of date and too expensive. New sensor technologies, when combined with wireless will create major transformations in the way we will be able to deliver care," said Topol. "We need to develop new technologies to care for our growing elderly population and to help remotely manage diabetes, prevent stroke, treat illnesses and deliver care anytime, anywhere. Wireless technology will profoundly change the quality and cost structure of medicine."

"Qualcomm believes wireless connectivity is key to the future of healthcare. Today's high-speed devices and networks have the power to collapse time and space, transmitting data in real-time and enabling whole new levels of communications and data sharing for patients and healthcare teams," said Don Jones, vice president of Health and Life Sciences at Qualcomm. "We're excited about the opportunity to leverage wireless devices and services to improve the health and wellness arena, which we believe represents one of the most important lifestyle challenges of our time."

"There is a lot of waste and inefficiency in the health industry, and injecting wireless into the ecosystem has the potential to revolutionize health and preventive care," said Robert Mesirow, vice president and show director for CTIA. "CTIA events are dedicated to showcasing and promoting the benefits of emerging wireless technology, and all indications point to healthcare as a fast-moving, exciting new area in which wireless will have a significant impact."

We look forward to a great discussion and hope you can join us in Vegas on April 2.

With wireless technology playing a critical role in today's health industry, International CTIA WIRELESS 2009® has created a comprehensive venue for this dynamic industry segment. With a keynote address, sessions and exhibitors focused on wireless health, attendees will gain a better understanding of how mobile technology advances wellness, preventative medicine and remote care. The International CTIA WIRELESS show takes place April 1-3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

On Thursday, April 2, wireless health expert and noted cardiologist Dr. Eric J. Topol, director of Scripps Translational Science Institute and chief academic officer of Scripps Health, will give a keynote address focused on how wireless technology will change the future of medicine.
